The Truth Anout Tanning

Nicola Roberts is a big inspiration to me as she is showing the world that you don't have to be the media's view of attractive to feel beautiful in your own skin. Her programme on BBC 3 really made me think of the lengths young people go to just for a tan. Since watching the Girls Aloud "Passions" series in which Nicola made her own make up range for pale skin, it got me thinking "Do i really need to be tanned to feel pretty" in my case it was no and i haven't worn fake tan for a year now and i love how i look. However it wasn't the fake tanning that shocked me it was the extremes the young people on the show went to be tanned.

I think a natural tan is beautiful but one young man was injecting himself with melanin just to be brown. It struck me that tanning can become an addiction. the sunbeds can become an addiction even though they heighten the risk of skin cancer. However what p****d me off the most was a radio show host who instead of helping Nicola promote a skin cancer awareness drive in Liverpool, decided to bring up accusations of her "flaunting her paleness". If flaunting her skin colour makes more people aware of the dangers behind skin cancer then its fine by me.

It just seems that in the media today you have to meet a preconceived idea of what attractiveness is and surly the confidence that comes with being confident in your own skin is beautiful and attractive. Whether pale or tanned all skin is beautiful however this show really brought to light that people were willing to risk their lives, in theory, to get a tan.

i think i should run away to ...

Paris <3

I am a little obsessed with Paris, have been since i was little and i absolutly love the paris range in Topshop. I think its nice to have that place to escape and i love just wandering round the little shops in paris when i go with my family. Plus its always a good place to spot little vintage buys that no one in England will have!

I only discovered Jessie Baylin's music a month or two ago and i think shes brilliant. I was in need of some chillout music and this was the perfect solution. Higher Altitudes is also a really good tune by her. Hopefully she will tour in the UK sometime because id definatly be going to her shows.

i think im in love

With this dress

and this one

I finally got down to some serious shopping today and found a similar white dress to that in HM! Due to the messed up weather i may not be able to wear it for a month or two but its just beautiful.

Today i have had to endure Girls Can't Catch "Echo" all day in work and i think i have finally gone insane as it is the only thing i can hear!

However i did have someone compliment me on my alice in wonderland "drink me" necklace which was really nice.

AHH My first blog, (that nobody is going to read) but I guess I have to start somewhere.

LookBook has inspired me to create this blog as I think being able to write about opinions on fashion and get feedback is a positive experience in itself. Im a vintage fashion sort of girl, granny cardies and vintage dresses being my clothing of choice at the moment. I love the variety of fashion that can be seen on Look Book and the inspiration that can be taken from them.

After seeing that the spring summer 2010 trends were going to be pastel colours and nudes, its safe to say i am looking forward to getting my wages and splurging on some pastel pinks and baby blues. Also the continuing of the sparkles that were on the catwalks of winter 2009 means that my winter wardrobe will not have to be hid away just yet. I love the fact pale people like myself can pull off the pastel colours without looking like casper the pasty ghost.
Music wise i decided to try and find some bands id never heard of before so after a while of looking i found that the itunes genius function actually comes in handy and am now listening to M83, The Maccabees, Marina and the Diamonds and Dananananackroyd the latter of which i had the pleasure of seeing at a festival in the summer, and they were awesome. The tunes which have me all emotional this week are "Don't save us from the flames" by M83, "Another Number" by The Cribs and Linkin Park's "Leave out all the rest".
